At the  beginning of the 15th century the owner of the fortress was Mikuláš (Mikeš) Divůček (meaning Wild) of Jemniště and Cimburk. He entered the services of King Wenceslas IV and in his court he also got acquainted with John Hus. He was one of his closest friends and in 1414 he warned him before his trip to Kostnice. However, he did not agree with the unrest that engulfed the land after Hus was burned. That is why, after the death of Wenceslas IV, he decided to side with his heir, the King Zikmund and soon became one of the main opponents of the Hussites. He is responsible for murdering the disciples of the Holy Gril, which occurred from 1419 all over Bohemia, and particulary in Kutná Hora.
In March 1420, he was defeated by John Žižka at the battle of Sudoměř, Vítkov and Vyšehrad (1420). These defeates caused he fell out of flavour with Zikmund. He, probably, died in 1423 in Moravia. During the Hussite Wars references to Jemniště were lost. The next mention of it comes from 1534, when the owner of the fortress became Mikuláš Kamberský of Kamberk. Before 1593, the manor was bought by the noble Říčan family. Obviously, at this time the fortress was rebuilt into a more comfortable seat of residence in Renaissance style. The former knight’s seat almost completely disappeared and was replaced by the comfortable four-wing château. During the Thirty Years War the manor was vandalized many times. In 1666, the lords of Říčany sold Jemniště together with six villages, which belonged to the estate. In the following decades there were many owners. In 1717, the manor was bought by Count Frances Adam of Trauttmansdorff († 1762) originally from an old Styrian family. When the new château was finished he moved from the fortress and it was later used for accomodation for feudal officials. From that time, both estates had the same owner.
In 1995, restitution of both châteaux occured. The property  was returned to the Family of Sternberg after more than 50 years. Both châteaux were devolved in disconsolate condition (however, the new château looked, in comparison with the old one, really newly). From this reason Petra and Jiří Sternberg decided to rent the old estate. The renter became the married couple Jana and Otto Černý who endeavour with effort for the reconstruction of the building.
